Breaking Barriers, Inspiring Change: MGB VI honors OIC Regional Director Cecilia L. Ochavo-Saycon in celebrating this year’s International Women’s Month

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VI (MGB VI) recognizes the contribution of Ms. Cecilia L. Ochavo-Saycon as the first woman at the helm of MGB VI in breaking barriers and inspiring change for women to have more equitable leadership opportunities in public governance.  This truly exemplifies the National Women’s Month 2024 theme: “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, patutunayan!” Currently holding the top leadership position as Officer in Charge (OIC), Regional Director of MGB VI, OIC RD Cecilia Ochavo-Saycon has proven that equity in opportunities is the key to make a headway for Gender and Development principles in public governance and in all sectors of society.  Equipped with a diverse array of roles and responsibilities within MGB VI, she has been initiated into various facets of its operations.  Previously, she served as the Chief of the Administrative and Finance Division of MGB VI since 2010.  She began her tenure as an Economist II at MGB VI.  She then concurrently assumed the duties of a Planning Officer II, before transitioning laterally to the latter role.  Subsequently, in response to emerging needs, she assumed the role of Chief of the Administrative and Finance Division alongside her duties as Planning Officer.  This wide range of functions allowed her to learn about the different aspects and challenges of the organization and equipped her capacity and competence for major roles and responsibilities in MGB VI. In observance of the National Climate Change Consciousness Week, the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VI is holding a photo-essay writing contest on the topic: “CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTION TOWARDS ACHIEVING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE” General Rules and Mechanics: 1 . The contest is open to all currently enrolled students in the secondary level (Grades 7-12) in Region VI. Only one (1) entry per student shall be submitted. 2 . An entry shall comprise of the following: An original photo or series of photos (maximum of four photos) in portrait or landscape orientation. The subject shall be in consonance with the topic. A one to three paragraph essay in English with a minimum of 160 words and not exceeding 200 words, succinctly and creatively describing the attached photo. FRAUD ADVISORY

This is to inform the public that the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), particularly the   MGB-RO6 is not any way connected to Mobile No. 0921 273 9156. We have received reports that certain individuals or parties using the said number are misrepresenting Regional Director Leo Van Juguan and/or the MGB Regional Office 6. We were informed that a person posing as Regional Director Leo Van Juguan has called two DENR field offices in separate occasions allegedly asking for transportation assistance (vans) to convey a group of persons. In another instance, the caller pretending as Regional Director Leo Van Juguan had asked for P5, 000 electronic load from a DENR field office, which was acted favorably. We will look into these incidents. Please be informed that such solicitations and acts are fraudulent and by all means, unauthorized. Thus, we hereby enjoin you to warn your constituencies (e.g. mining companies, permit holders, contractors, traders, etc.), government offices and the general public against any solicitations and acts allegedly by Regional Director Leo Van Juguan or by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. MGB RO-6 sets out plans, prepares for a more productive 2016

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 6 (MGB RO-6) set out to review and assess its work targets for 2016 and formulated action plans in accomplishing them during the office’s action planning and staff meeting on January 20, 2016.  With the division and section chiefs, MGB RO-6 Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan further discussed strategies on how to maximize resources in accomplishing the work targets and respond to stakeholders-driven activities. One of the programs and services of MGB RO-6 is conducting geosciences studies and geologic hazard mapping which serve as input to land use planning and classification as well as for disaster preparedness, management and mitigation programs. For 2016, the geosciences-related targets of MGB RO-6 are the conduct of vulnerability risk assessment (VRA), coastal geohazard assessment, sub-surface assessment, groundwater resource availability assessment, and quadrangle mapping. MGB RO-6 is gearing up further to strengthen its regulatory activities, RD Juguan said. In terms of regulatory and monitoring activities, MGB RO-6 will continue to monitor mining rights holders on their compliance to the work programs and the terms and conditions of the contract.  These are companies with existing approved Exploration Permits (EP), Mineral Production Sharing Agreements (MPSA) and Mineral Processing Permits (MPP) in Region 6. Compliance of mining rights holders to safety, environmental and social development requirements which are translated into different work programs is likewise evaluated by the MGB RO-6.  These are the Safety Health Program, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program and the Social Development and Management Program implemented by mining right holders and monitored by the MGB together with the host local government units....

MGB RO-6 briefs the media on its programs and services during press con

  “We recognize that the media has always been our partner in spreading the information that geohazard mapping and assessment generates.  This helps our agency reach out to the local government and communities in our goal to reduce if not totally mitigate the destructive effects and impacts of natural hazards such as rain-induced landslides and floods to people,” said Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 6 (MGB RO-6) during a Press Conference today at the Iloilo Grand Hotel. The Press Con is one of the activities of the MGB RO-6 this month in line with its 117th anniversary celebration. Fifteen members of the print and broadcast media in Iloilo attended the said press conference.  Ms. Cecilia L. Ochavo-Saycon, Chief of the Finance and Administrative Division and concurrent Planning Officer of the MGB RO-6 gave an overview of the programs and services and policy updates of the bureau.  Also present were the chiefs of the technical divisions of MGB RO-6 namely, Engr.
