Typhoon Caloy in Western Visayas ; DENR-MGB Warns of Possible Landslides, Flooding in Low-Lying Areas

Iloilo City – The DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 6 issued an advisory warning those living in low lying and mountainous areas to be alert against possible landslides and floods as typhoon Caloy moves towards West early today.

PAG-ASA forecasted in its Bulletin 5 AM today that tropical depression Caloy is moving towards West from Surigao City and placed parts of Region 6 under storm signal No. 1.

Under Signal No. 1 are SRN Leyte, Bohol, Siquijor, Cebu, Negros Provinces, Guimaras, Iloilo and Antique, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao, Dinagat, NRN Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.

RD Leo Van V. Juguan of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 6 said the in the advisory, LGUs are urged to refer to the Geohazard Maps and take precautionary measures against landslides and flooding especially for high risk areas.
