MGB VI capacitates learners on mining resources management services during DENR VI’s ENR frontline course

Iloilo City – Engr. Kimberly A. Villa who heads the monitoring and technical services section of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VI (MGB VI), capacitates the twenty-seven (27) participants of the ENR Frontline Course conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources VI last April 20, 2023.  The six-day learning event is now catering to Batch 8 learners composed mostly of personnel responsible for the agency’s front-line services in its field offices.

The ENR course has been the primary learning and capacity-building program of the DENR in all its regional offices nationwide.  Given the broad mandate of the DENR to manage the country’s environment and natural resources from the air, land, water, forests, coastal, biodiversity, and mineral resources, the management and human resources development services of the agency aim to capacitate all frontline employees in understanding all ENR laws, programs, projects and activities.   It is believed that enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the DENR’s functions and legal mandate will sharpen their abilities and skills toward more improved delivery of services to people.

MGB VI lecturer Engr. Villa gave the participants the basics about the job of a mining engineer to perk up their interest.  She then delved into the legal mandate of MGB as the primary government agency responsible for the conservation, management, development and proper use of the country’s mineral resources and mineral land.  She also facilitated a common understanding of what mining is and the different methods used in the process.  The MGB VI lecture further tackled the mining law and the rules and regulations governing the industry, such as the mining tenement system, role of the local government, fiscal regime, enforcement of environmental standards and corporate social responsibility.

The DENR VI led by Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran thanked MGB VI for consistently imparting time, wisdom and expertise the effective management and regulation of the mining industry to ensure responsible mining in the country.  (MGB VI)
