MGB RO-6 geologists participated in the 2018 Annual Geological Convention (GEOCON)

Iloilo City – Fifteen geologists of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 6 (MGB RO-6) attended the 2018 Annual Geological Convention held on December 11-12, 2018 at the Manila Hotel.

The MGB RO-6 delegation were Mae Y. Magarzo, Geosciences Division Chief, Dr. Leilanie O. Suerte, Catherine R. Tapalla, Adeline Grace M. Torreda, John Eric N. Ramos, Shimpei A. Francisco, Adrian Nichol L. Lizada, Laila Grace Roxan B. Indico, Sarah Joy C. Bonacua, Myron Gerard Y. De Guzman, Lisa Grace de Guia, Joahnna Marie Iloreta, Rea Maye Leslie Mejares, Arnel Angelo Oralde and Jamie Jeanne Sungahid.

The event is an annual scientific meeting of the society of geologists in the country.  With the theme “Building the Country, Securing the Future: The Role of Filipino Geoscientists,”  this year’s GEOCON highlighted the roles of geoscientists in nation-building as well as put into focus the issues currently affecting the geological community and the country in general.

The conference showcased the latest innovations and researches from different geological sectors.  Policy makers, regulators, media practitioners and members of the academme participated in the scientific meetings.

The 2-day event proved valuable for geologists who have been in the profession and the newcomers by mingling with one another, sharing ideas, experiences, and insights relevant to the field and how they can work together in nation-building.
