MGB accepts nominees for the PIMEA, best forest and safety mines awards

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) announced that the selection committees are now accepting nominees for the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Awards (PIMEA), Best Mining Forest Contest, and Safety Mines Awards.

The selection committees and the MGB continue to seek and recognize mining companies who performed exemplarily in the protection of the environment and ecology to promote private sector participation, enhance public awareness on the protection of the environment and ecology, and contribute to the growth of the economy and improvement of the quality of life of Filipinos.

MGB issued a memorandum to all its regional offices on December 1, 2020  on the formal call for nominees to the awards and the selection process that will be undertaken.

The committee will select the winning entries through an offsite validation of the safety, health, environmental management, social and community development, and reforestation programs and activities of mining contractors and permit holders covering the period July 2019-June 2020.

This year, validation activities may be done through a virtual conference with the nominees to ensure that safety and health protocols due to COVID-19 are observed. Nominees are also required to submit a write-up, safety and health, environmental, and social (SHES) supporting documents, validated mining forest program accomplishments, and audio-visual presentation (AVP).

Specifications of the requirements are provided in the Guidelines for the Conduct of Offsite Validation for PIMEA and Guidelines for the Selection of the 2020 Best Mining Forest Awardees. The deadline for the submission of reports, supporting documents, and results of a preliminary evaluation of the nominees for the awards is on or before January 8, 2021. The PMIEA is an annual award-giving event established under Executive Order No. 399 on February 03, 1997 which is usually held during the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) in Baguio City.
