DENR-MGB RO 6 presents updates to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of four provinces in Region 6

Iloilo City – The DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office 6 held a series of dialogues with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the provinces of Guimaras, Antique, Iloilo and Capiz on policies and programs of the MGB. These were conducted on July 26, August 4, 10 and 16 respectively.

According to regional director Leo Van V. Juguan, part of the information, education and communication targets of the DENR-MGB RO 6 is to hold dialogues and make an informative presentation to the provincial legislators on updates in the programs and policies of the DENR-MGB that are relevant to the local government.

The DENR-MGB presentation focuses on the results of the detailed geohazards assessment and mapping with a scale of 1:10,000 conducted by DENR-MGB in all the cities and municipalities nationwide.

DENR-MGB RO 6 responds to specific concerns of each province, said regional director Juguan.  In Guimaras, the DENR-MGB clarified matters on the assessment of karst subsidence hazards or sinkholes that the DENR-MGB RO 6 conducted in the province in 2015 using the ground penetrating radar (GPR).

RD Juguan further said that in the province of Antique, the SP asked for technical inputs from the DENR-MGB on geohazards affecting their river systems.  Meanwhile, the provincial board members of Iloilo expressed their appreciation for the geohazard maps being distributed by the DENR-MGB which proved to be useful in the various planning and disaster mitigation activities of the various municipalities in Iloilo.

Issues on possible mining activities in the province of Capiz were tackled during DENR-MGB RO 6 dialogue with the SP.  DENR-MGB RO 6 presented the recent issuance of the DENR Secretary Regina Paz L. Lopez, Department Memorandum Order No. 2016-01 ordering the Audit Of All Mines And Moratorium On New Mining Projects.  (LAA, DENR-MGB RO 6)
