MGB VI participates in the 2023 MGB Annual Technical Forum in Region X

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VI (MGB VI) participates in the 2023 MGB Annual Technical Forum hosted by the MGB Regional Office X in Cagayan De Oro City from September 26-29, 2023.

MGB VI participants were OIC Regional Director Johnny R. Matias, Geosciences Division Chief Mae Y. Magarzo, OIC Chief of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division Engr. Ronald C. Villamora and OIC Chief of the Mine Environmental Management Section Engr. Mierbert Wed Naldoza who presented a technical paper.

The MGB Annual Technical Forum is an annual gathering of technical personnel in the fields of geosciences, mining engineering, and metallurgical engineering.  It is a venue where they present technical and policy papers as output of research and development studies/projects, geological investigations on geohazards, vulnerability risk assessments, geochemical surveys, stakeholders’ engagements, and consultations conducted during the preceding years.

“It started back in 1990 with a small group for geologists discussing mining-related topics, then eventually turned into an awaited internal annual occasion of MGB serving as a platform for coming together, sharing knowledge, and exploring new ideas for a transformative future,” MGB X shares. It is also a gathering where MGB personnel who availed of a fellowship, study grants, training, and short courses sponsored or funded by foreign governments, international organizations, and foreign-assisted projects under Executive Order No. 367 present their learning.

This year’s theme is #TheFutureIsMINE: Innovative Technologies and Practices in Geosciences and Minerals Industry, with a total of eight (8) posters and twenty-five (25) papers—fifteen (15) technical papers, seven (7) policy papers, and three (3) special papers presented during the four-day event.
