MGB VI presents programs in the DENR 6 CSO consultation

Iloilo City – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VI holds a consultative meeting with civil society organizations in Region in coordination with the Regional Development Council (RDC) on March 11, 2022 at the Diversion 21 Hotel. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau VI (MGB VI), a line bureau of the DENR, presented its programs and activities implemented for fiscal years 2020 and 2021 during the said event.

The CSO consultation is part of citizen’s engagement in the budgeting process, recognizing the crucial role of the civil society as it participates in achieving social change and good governance. The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) facilitates the consultation as part of the annual budget preparation of national government agencies and regional line bureaus.  Civil society organizations (CSOs) from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental attended the face-to-face consultation.

DENR regional officers, PENROs, Environmental Management Bureau and Mines and Geosciences Bureau presented their corresponding programs and accomplishments for the last two years.  The consultation provides for the venue and mechanism where CSOs engage in giving feedback on the effectiveness and efficiency of government projects in their areas of concern and participation.

MGB VI chief of the Finance and Administrative Division Cecilia Ochavo-Saycon presented the presented the agency’s programs, activities and projects (PAPs) for the current years and accomplishment for 2020-2021 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  This include the conduct of awareness and advocacy on mineral resources and geosciences, issuance of mining contracts/permits, monitoring the compliance of approved mining contracts/permits to safety, health, environmental protection and social development programs, land geological assessment and field mapping survey and giving of information to the local government units.  (MGB VI)
