Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 6 (MGB-6) gave an orientation on the detailed geohazard mapping and assessment of Iloilo City to the barangay officilas of Iloilo City on June 23, 2015 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
“It is very important to make our barangays aware of the geological hazards such as flooding and landslides in their location because they are at the very forefront in facing the challenges brought about by these hazards,” Mae Magarzo, a senior geologist of MGB-6 said.
More than 120 barangays of the city were represented during the forum.
Iloilo City is prone to flooding and the level of vulnerability of each barangay, from low to very high, can be located in the 1:10,000 geohazard map.
