Aggregate sector food assistance to COVID-19 affected communities in Region 6 reaches P3M

The sand and gravel (SAG), quarry and mineral processing (MPP) operators or collectively the aggregate sector extended economic relief to households and individuals affected by COVID 19 in Region 6 in the form of food packs and cash assistance.

As of May 12, 2020, the companies allocated a total of P4,464,639.35 for the program based on the consolidated report of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 6 (MGB-6).  The total fund utilized as of May 12, 2020 is P3,255,866.00.

The food packs and cash assistance benefitted a total of  10,914 households in the different barangays in Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Negros Occidental.  Some 670 frontliners, senior citizens and persons with disabilities were also recipients of such assistance.

The permit holders used the funds allocated to implement a Social Development Management Program or SDMP required of mining or quarry permittees/operators for the development of mining host communities.

This is indeed a concrete act of “bayanihan” support of Republic Act No. 11469 or The Bayanihan We Heal as One Act to fight the health, economic, and social impact of COVID-19 in the country. (MGB-6)
