Mining sector wraps up assistance to COVID-19 affected communities

Summary of Accomplishment as of July 24, 2020

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, MGB authorized mining companies to realign the unutilized funds of SDMP to assist the host and neighboring communities, as well as the non-impact barangays in their respective localities, during the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19.

In Region 6, the total budget allocation for realigned SDMP funds is P7,967,970.55. As of July 24, 2020, the total amount utilized is P7,145,346.15 which the aggregate sector used to provide economic relief to households and individuals affected by COVID-19.   Sand and gravel (SAG), quarry and mineral processing (MPP) operators or collectively the aggregate sector extended economic relief to households and individuals by giving different kinds of personal and protective equipment (PPE), food packs and cash assistance since the first week of April.

Currently, MGB issued a memorandum terminating the realignment of the remaining SDMP unutilized funds for the program effective August 1, 2020. In effect, the approved programs and activities targeted in the 2020 Annual SDMP shall continue to be implemented for the rest of the year.

All the same, mining companies are not restricted to continue with their COVID-19 related assistance to Local Government Units or the host and neighboring communities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. (MGB-6)
