MGB RO-VI reflects on role as public servants at MGB founding anniversary

Iloilo City – MGB Regional Office VI, officer-in-charge of the office of the regional director (OIC-ORD) Engr. Raul A. Laput formally opened the commemoration of MGB’s founding anniversary at the regional office on November 23, 2020.

The commemoration of the MGB’s founding anniversary is a time for each personnel to look back at the relatively long history of the MGB and humbly reflect on the great responsibility of being a public servant, OIC-ORD Laput said.  “We ought to be thankful and grateful to God for this opportunity and responsibility to be in public service.  This attitude of gratitude will serve as a driving force for us to do our work conscientiously so that we can continue to contribute positively in the delivery of our mandated services to the public even in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic,” said OIC-ORD Laput.

He further said, “ as good public servants, we are accountable to extend service and acts of kindness to the least, the last and the lost, and this is especially needed in the face of the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the series of typhoons that hit our country.”

“Let us always strive to be good public servants despite our imperfections, mindful of our shortcomings and one in achieving our goals towards an efficient and effective delivery of our programs and services despite the challenges we face,” he concluded.

The MGB is one of the line bureaus of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).  MGB’s history traces back its creation under the Philippine Revolutionary Republic when the Departamento de Fomento (Department of Welfare) was created through a decree signed by then President General Emilio Aguinaldo on November 29, 1898. One of the offices was the Industry and Agriculture Division where the Mines Section belonged. It was the original office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB). (MGB6, DENR)
