MGB RO-6 participated in the 2016 Disaster Preparedness and Response IEC Caravan

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 6 (MGB RO-6) joined other national government agencies in the Disaster Preparedness and Response IEC Caravan held in Concepcion, Iloilo.  The activity was spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as chair agency of the Committee on Preparedness of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC). Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Rosario Cabrera and Chair of the RDRRMC Region 6 thanked all the national government agencies who participated in the IEC caravan and the Municipality of Concepcion for hosting it.

National government agencies came and presented their programs and services focusing on information to prepare communities when geologic and hydro-meteorological hazards occur such as typhoons, landslides, floods and storm surges.  The residents, students, teachers, municipal and government officials of Concepcion, Iloilo and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) of other municipalities of Iloilo received information materials.

Attending agencies were the Department of Science and Technology, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and line bureaus Environmental Management Bureau and Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Bureau of Fire and Protection, National Food Authority, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Agriculture, National Irrigation Agency, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, and Armed Forces of the Philippines were present during the IEC caravan.

Ms. Mae Y. Magarzo, Chief of the Geosciences Division of the MGB RO-6 presented the Detailed Geohazards Mapping Program of the government on a 1:10,000 scale showing the susceptibility of areas to rain-induced landslides and floods.  The geohazard map of the Municipality of Concepcion was presented and a printed copy was turned over to the municipal government of Concepcion, Iloilo represented by Vice Mayor Rainier N. Balida on behalf of Mayor Milliard Villanueva.
