MGB RO-6 DENR presents status of mining in the extractive industries multi-stakeholders summit

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. 6, DENR presented the status of the mining industry in Region 6 during the Extractive Industries Multi-Stakeholders Summit last August 29-31, 2018 in Iloilo City.

MGB RO-6 DENR Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan said that there have been no large-scale mining operations in Region 6 for the past 16 years.  What we have are exploration projects, quarry projects and extraction of sand and gravel for construction, Juguan said.  The MGB issues Exploration Permits but in Region 6, all the previously approved permits have all expired and in the process of renewal.  There are 15 approved Mineral Production Sharing Agreements but all have not yet proceeded to the development and commercial production stage of mining operations.

The Development Alternatives, Incorporated – Facilitating Public Investments Project (FPI), a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with PROCESS Foundation-Panay organized the gathering of the different local government units and civil society organizations (CSOs) in Panay to engage in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative processes.  (MGB6, DENR)
