Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. 6, DENR enhanced the knowledge and skills of the frontliners of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Western Visayas District on the provisions of the Mining Act of 1995 and its implementing rules and regulations during a seminar held at the PCG Headquarters at Bo. Obrero, La Paz, Iloilo City on June 6, 2018.
The resource person, Engr. Ronald C. Villamora, Chief of the Social Development Section of the MGB, DENR RO-6, explained the provisions of the mining law significant to the regulatory functions of the PCG frontliners assigned in the different Coast Guard stations and detachments around the region.
The PCG participants were most interested in understanding the authority of the MGB in the administration and disposition of mineral lands and resources, and how the PCG could assist in ensuring that the regulatory provisions of the mining law are strictly enforced. They also raised questions to be clarified on the provisions covering the transport of minerals/mineral products and confiscation, seizure and disposition of illegally‑sourced minerals/mineral products, and the necessary documents that must be presented during the transport of minerals and mineral products.
The resource person explained as well the mining stages and processes, the different types of mining contracts, agreements and permits and the mandatory requirements before a mining contract or permit is approved.
PCG Training Staff SN2 Radzmin A. Dompol expressed their appreciation for the MGB, DENR’s time and expertise in giving an informative lecture, and engaging the questions of the PCG participants. The PCG Western Visayas has been a partner of the MGB, DENR RO-6 in increasing the awareness of partner government agencies on the regulatory provisions of the mining law with the aim of ensuring that mining activities particularly transporting minerals and their products strictly follow the procedures and requirements of the law.
