MGB, DENR RO-6 held a seminar on Anti-VAWC in celebration of the 2018 Women’s Month

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Regional Office 6 (MGB, DENR RO-6) held a seminar tackling Republic Act 9262 or the law on Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) of 2004 on March 20, 2018 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel as part of the agency’s celebration of the 2018 Women’s Month with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women.”

The resource person, Atty. Shiella P. Olid, gave an overview of the Anti-VAWC law, the different acts of violence committed against women and their children as specified in the law, and how the law protects them.  Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan, CESO V, in its message recognized that ending violence against women continue to be one of the greatest challenges of our society, citing news reports about acts of violence committed against women.  Gender and Development (GAD) focal person Mae Y. Magarzo of the MGB, DENR RO-6 said that the seminar was a relevant learning opportunity for all the personnel as it increased their knowledge on the Anti-VAWC law and how the law could help both men and women in fighting violence against women and children.
