MGB-6 ISSUES ADVISORY ON SEVERE TROPICAL STORM “QUINTA”

Iloilo City – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau RegionalOffice 6 (MGB-6), DENR issued an advisory to the local government units (LGUs) in Region 6 through the DENR field offices concerning tropical storm Quinta threatening the Catanduanes-Albay area and which may also affect portions of Western Visayas.

Based on Severe Weather Bulletin No. 10 issued by PAGASA-DOST at 2:00 P.M. today, October 25, 2020, severe tropical storm Quinta is estimated to be located at 95 kilometers East of Virac, Catanduanes moving westward.

Affected areas within Region 6, Western Visayas are northern portions of Capiz (Sapia-an, Ivisan, Roxas City, Pan-ay, Pilar, Pontevedra, President Roxas), Aklan, northern portions of Antique (Caluya, Libertad, Pandan, Sebaste, Culasi) and the northern portions of Iloilo (Batad, Balasan, Estancia, Carles.)

MGB-6 warns that the tropical cyclone will affect the said localities with winds and intermittent rains within the next 36 hours. Waves on coastal waters may gradually develop and become bigger and higher.

MGB-6 advised the LGUs to refer to the Geohazard Maps of their respective municipalities and warn communities living near water bodies, low-lying sites, and areas classified as High to Very High in the landslide and flood susceptibility ratings to be vigilant and prepare for possible evacuation.

Roads and bridges prone to landslide and flood hazards may also be closed if necessary based on actual conditions on the ground.

LGUs should continue to coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm and Rainfall Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings being issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions, MGB-6 further advises.
