DENR-MGB RO 6 Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan issues an advisory today to local government units through the DENR field offices warning of floods and landslides that may be triggered by rains in the coming days.

Based on the latest Weather Advisory of the PAG-ASA, DOST at 11:00 am today, “the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated based on all available data at 715 KM East of CATARMAN, Northern Samar (12.4°N, 131.2°E). This weather system will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and isolated thunderstorms over eastern Visayas and CARAGA.  Residents in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. This LPA is expected to develop into a Tropical Depression within 24 hours.”

The DENR, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 6 reiterates the warning particularly for Western Visayas that landslides and floods may occur as triggered by rains in areas that were identified as susceptible to landslides and floods based on the Geohazard Maps.

The LGUs are advised to refer to the Geohazard Maps and take precautionary measures to include possible evacuations if necessary.
