DENR-MGB RO 6 presents geohazard maps in the DILG R6 Orientation on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and Planning Workshop for Region 6 LGUs

Iloilo City – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office 6 conducted an Orientation on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and Planning Workshop for the municipalities and cities of Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique on September 9, 20, 21 and 22, 2016.

Resource persons from the DENR-MGB RO 6 discussed about the risks of geologic hazards specifically rain-induced landslides and flood.  Mae Y. Magarzo, division chief of the Geosciences Division said that the 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps produced by the DENR-MGB RO 6 show vulnerable areas in the sitios and barangays of each municipality and city of Region 6.  The geohazard maps are inputs to the CDRA that the local government units will conduct.

The CDRA is a process, according to the DILG,  that would result to coming up with an integrated information on risks and vulnerabilities that people, urban areas, agriculture, forestry, and fishery production areas, critical point facilities, lifelines and other infrastructure are exposed to.  The CDRA is also a step towards integrating disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation measures into the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of municipalities and cities.
