MGB, DENR RO-6 issued a landslide and flooding advisory as typhoon Vinta brings rain over the Visayas

Iloilo City –The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 6 (DENR, MGB RO 6) issued a landslide and flood threat advisory to the local government units through the DENR RO 6 field offices in view of typhoon Vinta affecting the Visayas areas.

Signed by DENR MGB RO 6 Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan, CESO V, the MGB RO 6 advisory warned that typhoon Vinta brings scattered moderate to heavy rains over the Visayas and Mindanao areas in the next 24 hours.  Southern Negros Occidental was placed on signal number 1 with Southern Leyte, Bohol, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.

Prolonged rains may trigger landslides and floods in areas that are at highly at risk to these geologic hazards risk based on its region-wide and detailed geohazard assessment and mapping.  The MGB RO6 has been closely coordinating with the Office of the Civil Defense, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee, and the local government units in using the geohazard map to warn vulnerable communities to take precautionary measures and prepare for evacuations if necessary.
