MGB, DENR RO-6 informs stakeholders of its programs and services

Iloilo City – The DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 6 (DENR-MGB RO-6) has informed various stakeholders of its programs and services in coordination with other government agencies.

In the monthly radio program of the DENR Region-6 over DYLL Radyo Pilipinas, MGB RO-6 Planning Officer Ms. Pauline Jordan and Chief of the Finance and Administrative Division Ms. Cecilia L. Ochavo-Saycon about the agency’s programs and services.  During a consultative conference with the Civil Society Organization (CSO) on February 12, 2018, organized by the DENR and NEDA, MGB RO-6 discussed as well its major programs and responded to queries on the requirements and process in issuing mining permits.  During a lecture for the Philippine Coastguard (PCG) on February 14, 2018, Attorney Cesar Emmanuelle P. Buyco, Jr. briefed the PCG Frontliners on the provisions of the mining law and regulations governing the mining sector.

DENR-MGB is mandated to implement the laws and policies regulating mining activities and permit issuances.  Monitoring the compliance with safety, environment and social provisions of permit holders is also one of the main functions of the agency.  This includes the investigation and pursuit of legal actions to address illegal mining activities.

An important program of the MGB is the mapping and assessment of geologic hazards to determine the susceptibility of areas to the occurrence of landslides and flood.  With the completion of its 1:10,000 geologic hazard mapping and assessment in 2014, the program has expanded to risk exposure assessment as a component of the vulnerability and risk assessment (VRA).  DENR-MGB RO-6 also conducts coastal hazard mapping, groundwater resource assessment, and karst (sinkholes) mapping.  These are all continuing programs which are conducted yearly in the different cities and municipalities of Region 6.
