The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 6 conducted a 6-day training on georesistivity survey for groundwater resources assessment last April 7-12, 2015 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel. Eighteen personnel from the MGB-6 and five on-the-job-trainees of B.S. Geology from the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) attended the training.
Abraham Gatdula, a geophysicist from the MGB Central Office gave a hands-on training on the use of the geo-resistivity meter, an equipment used for geo-resistivity survey for groundwater resource vulnerability assessment such as salt water intrusion.
MGB-6 Regional Director Leo Van V. Juguan, CESO V, said that the equipped the participants with technical capacity on using the newly-acquired geo-resistivity meter on the field as well as on interpreting the data as a result of the survey.
The trainees conducted a 2-day test run of the geo-resistivity meter on the field along the circumferential road in Jaro and Pavia, Iloilo.
MGB-6 has two areas targeted for groundwater resource vulnerability assessment using the geo-resistivity meter this year. Groundwater resource vulnerability assessment will be conducted in Kalibo, Aklan and Bago City, Negros Occidental for 2015, RD Juguan said. (LAA, MGB-6)
